At ChefMod, we are constantly examining the customer experience.  Central to the process is our on-line ordering system.  Simplifying this feature makes for a quick process once it’s learned, but there are a few tricks that can help out.

Order by Search: If you’re only purchasing a few things, the easiest approach is most likely to search for them.  We have a simple template that allows users to search for the ChefMod Item ID, Item description, Model#, Brand or even the Vendor product Code.  You can also narrow searches by using a combination of these items.  ”Tomato” in item and “Heinz” in brand for example returns all the Heinz tomatoes.

All customer locations have a custom “Restaurant Guide” which is the default list.  Click on the “All Available” to see all the matching items from your distributors that may not be on your own list!

Order by History: Many customers don’t know this, but you can easily re-order any orders from the past.  If your Sunday order is pretty much the same every week, you can simply pull up last week’s order and re-submit.  The items will be added to your shopping cart and can easily be edited to accommodate any subtle differences in what you need.  Use the history technique to speed up your ordering process.  You can of course add items, remove items or change quantities of any item during this process, just as you can normally.

Order by Browsing: We understand that many Chefs like to separate their ordering process by supplier.  We call this filtering.  To display all the items sold by XYZ Company select the company using the drop down box on your screen.  You can then simply scroll down the list to enter quantities of the items you want.  To move faster through the list hit the Tab key to go forward or hold down the Shift key while hitting Tab to move backwards through the list.  Once you get the hang of this, you’ll be moving faster through your lists in no time!

Order by Favorite: Using Favorites does take some set up, but once you have it, it can speed up your ordering time drastically.  It is especially useful for Chefs who are managing menus that don’t change very often.  Create Favorites using the Manage Favorites link in the menu bar.  Here you can create new Favorites, name them how you want and then add items to them.  Once a Favorite is created you can call it up any time you want to order those items.  Those items are entered into your Shopping Cart and you can edit quantities or remove items as needed.  You can also go back and add items to your order as well.

We have been working on our much anticipated next release and hope to have that available in the coming months.  In the meantime, we would love as much feedback as possible to help us understand your needs better.

There is a comment option right here, so if you have an idea for us on how to make things work better please let us know!
